Hi. My name is Bronwen Matthews and I am an Occupational Therapist living in Toowoomba, providing a fully mobile service that visits clients in their homes in Toowoomba and the surrounding region (up to 2 hours). I consider myself to be very practical and down to earth in my approach with clients. I work hard with my clients to come up with solutions that will meet the presenting needs.
I graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (OT) with First Class Honours. I have worked across a broad range of settings and caseloads providing an extensive foundation for practice.
Following an extended time away from the profession to care for my family and work in our family business, I have returned to my Occupational Therapy practice with a renewed vigor and a wealth of life experience to support my holistic approach to therapy.
I am committed to a high level of service delivery and am continually expanding my knowledge and skills across the many facets of Occupational Therapy practice.
Since graduating in 1993, I have covered many OT roles. These have included adult stroke rehabilitation; dementia care; general medical and surgical conditions, including equipment prescription and home modifications; education and treatment for arthritis; splinting for overuse and tendon injuries; and completion of perceptual, gross, fine motor and handwriting assessments and treatment for children in various school settings. My experience has been very broad, covering many and varied caseloads, including more specialist interventions in acute hospital settings and work in rural community settings.
More recently I have been involved in completing assessments; assistive technology trials; and functional and complex home modification reports for NDIS recipients, as well as for clients with home care packages. I have also completed many ergonomic assessments for staff in large company settings and conducted manual handling workshops.
I consider some of my strengths to be;
· Commitment to ongoing professional development
· Ease of connection with clients and gaining an understanding of needs
· Exceptional time management and organisational skills
